An implant is essentially a titanium screw - the best analogy we can draw is a rawlplug - onto which we can attach a variety of precision attachments. Onto these attachments we can affix crowns, bridges or dentures. An implant is surgically placed in a prepared site in the bone over which the gum is replaced. The bone then grows into the surface of the implant - a process we call osseo-integration.
The procedure of placing an implant, if described, always sounds awful, but because we have to avoid damaging the bone whilst placing the implants, it is usually no worse than a filling. Indeed, 90% of our implant patients tell us that they suffered very minimal or no pain after the implant was placed.
The planning of dental implants is the most important and our implant team of David Crosbie and Chris Sproat hold combined implant planning clinics if you would wish an in-depth discussion on your personal requirements. An assessment costs £120 including x-rays (waived upon uptake of treatment).
